Harriman After School and Summer Programs

FREE high quality after school and summer programs for South Jamaica, Rockaway Beach, Belle Harbor and Midwood communities.

 

These specialized after school programs, which started on Monday, September 9, 2019 are offered at no cost to qualifying students. Harriman Programs was awarded three grants to provide these after school programs.

 

Registration, and to be considered for these programs, is ongoing until all spaces have been filled. After these programs have been filled, qualifying students will be added to a waitlist and will be contacted when a spot is available. There is no cost to attend these programs and they are open to anyone who qualifies within the community.

MS 183- a SONYC Middle School Program, for grades 6-8 is located at

245 Beach 79th Street in Rockaway Beach. There are 116 slots available for this after school program.

MS 114- a SONYC Middle School Program, for grades 6-8 is located at

400 Beach 135th St, Belle Harbor, NY 11694. There are 30 slots available for this after school program.

Redwood- a SONYC Middle School Program, for grades 6-8 is located at

133-25 Guy R. Brewer Blvd in Queens. There are 125 slots available for this after school program.

PS 193- a Compass Elementary School Program, for grades k-5 is located at

2515 Avenue L in Brooklyn. There are 156 slots available for this after school program.

COMPASS Information Here

COMPASS NYC integrates the best OST practices with the unprecedented expansion of after school programs. Programs are offered at no cost to young people and are strategically located in public and private schools, community centers, religious institutions, public housing, and recreational facilities throughout the City. COMPASS NYC aims to help youth build skills to support their academic achievement, raise their confidence, and cultivate their leadership skills through service learning and other civic engagement opportunities. 

 

The COMPASS Elementary model is a robust design built on lessons learned by DYCD throughout COMPASS' history and caters to the whole child from Kindergarten through 5th grades. Beyond STEM, COMPASS programs strive to integrate literacy into all instruction; offers homework help, basic arts instruction and physical activity, including nutritional programming to promote healthy living. COMPASS programs are offered 3 hours each day, 5 days per week including and on 13 school holidays.

COMPASS NYC's middle school model also known as SONYC for School’s Out NYC serves as a pathway to success for youth in 6th, 7th and 8th grades.

This program is offered at Redwood Middle School in South Jamacia
