Staff Qualifications

The quality of Healthy Kids Programs and Harriman Programs after school programs rests on the quality of the staff.  Harriman Programs and Healthy Kids Programs has a rigorous selection process to recruit and hire the candidates with the best potential to be the best of the best.

In the interview process we look for:

  • Warm, friendly, caring, upbeat personality

  • Loves children and wants to work with children

  • Understands and can relate to students from diverse backgrounds

  • Professional Attitude. The after school programs expect that all program staff will have a friendly, positive, upbeat, cooperative and achievement orientated attitude.  Each and every interaction with others must be professional, respectful and appropriate to a work environment.  Staff needs to understand and respect the differences between a work environment and no work environment.

  • Dress/Personal Appearance. The after school programs expect that all employees dress in an appropriate manner, according to their job function. Employees are expected to appear neat, clean, well-groomed at all time and in clothing that is clean, without holes and similar to other school professional staff.

  • Punctuality and Attendance. The after school programs require the punctuality and regular attendance of all employees. Being on time means arriving five minutes before their shift begins. Lateness or absences means that required staff/children ratios may not be in compliance which threatens the entire operation.

From the outset, all candidates for employment at the after school programs are among the most thoroughly vetted personnel in New York State.  Every candidate must provide the following information to the HR Department before they begin employment so your children have the best possible experience.

  • Proof of education and or training.
