EXCITING NEWS: HEALTHY KIDS IS NOW A PUBLIC BENEFIT CORPORATION

At Healthy Kids, we’ve always been driven by a social mission. We believe we are part of the "village" that raises our community's children to be happy, successful adults. We have an obligation to create a nurturing, enriching, and safe environment where children are happy, engaged, and social. In doing so, we aim to create a positive and lasting impact on not only children but also on families, staff, and the broader community. And today we’re proud to announce that that mission is (legally) official! As a Public Benefit Corporation, we’ll pursue a ‘double bottom line’ — meaning that our goal isn’t just profits, but also using our business as a force for good that helps children, families, staff and communities thrive.

WHAT IS A PUBLIC BENEFIT CORPORATION?

Most US companies are established — and operate — with the goal of generating profits for their shareholders. This isn’t just an implicit goal; it’s actually written into their bylaws, meaning that company directors and executives are legally obligated to pursue profit over social impact.

AS A PUBLIC BENEFIT CORPORATION, WE’LL PURSUE A ‘DOUBLE BOTTOM LINE’ — MEANING THAT OUR GOAL ISN’T JUST PROFITS, BUT ALSO USING OUR BUSINESS AS A FORCE FOR GOOD THAT HELPS CHILDREN, FAMILIES, STAFF, AND COMMUNITIES THRIVE.

Starting in 2010, US states started passing legislation allowing companies to register as “Public Benefit Corporations”. This designation allows directors and executives to consider both profits and their social mission when making decisions on behalf of their companies.

BALANCING PROFITS

AND PURPOSE

WHY DID HEALTHY KIDS APPLY?
At Healthy Kids, we’ve always been passionate about doing what’s right for our children, our families, our employees, and our communities. We help moms get back to work and support families from all different backgrounds with reliable, affordable, and accessible programming. We strive to make a lasting impact on each of our kid's lives. We are reinventing childcare positions for our employees with benefits and career paths. We partner with school districts in a variety of ways to meet the needs of their families and build communities...not just profits.

So we figured — why not make it official? We’ve been conducting business like a Public Benefit Corporation for quite some time, and today are proud to announce that we are now certified as such.

WHY ARE WE SO EXCITED ABOUT IT?
Being a Public Benefit Corporation (officially!) will continue to empower our team to think long-term, and to consider our impact on our children, families, staff, and communities just as deeply as we consider our profits in everything we do. We’ve always cared about the world around us and wanted to leave it a better place than we’ve found it. And now we can put our money where our mouth is.

Thanks for being on this journey with us — we're more excited than ever for what the future brings!
