Whether your child is just starting out or needs care during the school year or summer, we're here to support you every step of the way.
Is My Family Eligible?
Check the requirements below to see if you qualify
Eligibility Requirements:

✓ Your are working or attempting to find work​
​
✓ You are in school or in a job training program
​
✓ Your child is receving child protective services
​
✓ Your child needs care to support child welfare services or if your family is experiencing a crisis
​
✓ Your child has developmental needs
Eligibility is redetermined every 12 months and families must recertify annually.

What Documentation Do I Need?
Gather these documents before you apply

Proof of Identity & Household

Used to identify who lives in the home and who is applying:

Custody/guardianship paperwork (if applicable)

​ 2. Proof of Income (REQUIRED)

This is one of the most important parts of the application.

Recent pay stubs

Employer statment or wage verification

Most recent tax return (especially if self employed)

Documentation of other income (child support, SSI, unemployment, etc.)

3. Proof of work, school or Training
​
Families must show they meet the activity requirement:

School enrollment or class schedule

Job training documentation

Job search verification (if applicable)

4. Proof of North Carolina Residency
​
You must live in North Carolina and apply in your county:

Utility bill

5. Child Care Information
​
You'll Need details about the provider:

Schedule of care needed (hours/days)

6. Additional Documentation (If Applicable)

Depending on the family's situation, counties may request:

Disability or special needs documentation

CPS or foster care paperwork

Proof of school-aged child enrollment​
Accepted document types include: PDF, DOC/DOCX, JPEG, or PNG
Certain documents may fulfill more than one requirement.
How to Apply
Step 1 : Apply Through the Local County DSS

In North Carolina, applications are handled at the county level through the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS).

Are there other Forms of Assistance?
WDI's Child Care Scholarship Program
Westchester Works Scholarship
For our Westchester families, this scholarship has much higher income eligibility levels. A family of two "over income" for child care assistance through CCAP can have a gross income of $102,000 and be eligible for the Westchester Works Child Care Scholarship Program.
