If you’re receiving tuition assistance through your local Department of Social Services (DSS) or another agency, you may be assigned a Parent Share—a weekly amount you’re responsible for paying out-of-pocket.
Here’s everything you need to know:
What is a Parent Share?
Your Parent Share is the portion of your child care tuition not covered by your subsidy agency. It is determined by your caseworker based on your income, household size, and other eligibility criteria.
The agency will send us documentation outlining your:
Approved subsidy start date
Covered days/hours
Parent Share amount
How to Pay Your Parent Share
Parent Share payments are managed through your Playground Parent Portal. To learn how to make a payment, see How to Pay Your Tuition.
Here's how it works:
Once your subsidy is approved, your Parent Share invoice will be generated weekly
You’ll receive an invoice 3 days before the due date
You must set up automatic payments through Playground
Payment is due weekly (typically on Wednesdays) for the following week’s care
📌 Parent Share amounts are subject to your agency’s guidelines and may change if your circumstances or subsidy status change.
🧾 What Happens if You Don’t Pay?
To remain in good standing:
Parent Share payments must be made in full and on time
A $15 late fee will be charged if payment is not made by the day after the due date
Accounts with more than 2 weeks overdue may be suspended from care
Unpaid balances may be reported to your caseworker, which could impact your eligibility to continue receiving benefits
🚫 Reminder: No Refunds on Parent Share Payments
Once a Parent Share payment is processed, it is non-refundable, even if your child does not attend on a scheduled day.
